In 1864, Auguste Peureux founded his distillery in Fougerolles, at the foot of the Vosges, specializing in the production of fruit brandies, including the renowned Fougerolles kirsch, which quickly gained a worldwide reputation. The fruit brandies from Grandes Distilleries Peureux even received recognition at the Universal Exposition in Paris.
In 1927, Auguste's sons, André and Edgar, took over the company and renamed it "les Fils d'Auguste Peureux." André remained in Fougerolles, while his brother managed the warehouses in Marseille and Saint-Denis. Despite the challenges of the 1929 crisis and wartime, the company continued its operations.
In 1955, Claude Peureux introduced cherries for chocolatiers, evolving into Griottines® in the 1980s. These wild cherries macerated in a light kirsch syrup have become a globally recognized specialty.
In a visionary move, Bernard Baud created the Institut Griottines®, continuing the company's ambition. This modern and unique boutique, equipped with a demonstration room, laboratory, and a one-of-a-kind sales space in the region, achieved immediate success, further solidifying the reputation of Grandes Distilleries Peureux in the culinary world.
